DataCore's SANsymphony Software and LSI Logic Storage Adapters Accelerate Performance
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. and MILPITAS, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2002) - DataCore Software Corporation and LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), announced today performance enhancements for 'Powered by DataCore(tm)' storage area networks (SAN) featuring LSI Logic storage adapters. The integration of DataCore's open storage networking platform, SANsymphony(tm) software, and the LSI Logic flagship 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel adapters boost the native throughput for managed storage servers while providing a transparent bridge to the installed base of 1 Gb/s storage arrays.
"DataCore is actively working with industry leaders such as LSI Logic to address large scale, diverse workloads common to enterprise-class SANs," said Ken Horner, vice president of marketing for DataCore. "Our SANsymphony software takes full advantage of LSI Logic's superior Fibre Channel performance in both initiator and target modes to provide customers with fast, scalable yet cost-effective storage networking nodes."
The LSI Logic 2 Gb/s, dual-channel LSI44929O Fibre Channel storage adapter offers industry-leading target mode performance, achieving up to 53,000 I/Os per second with small block reads. By transparently bridging 1 and 2 Gb/s devices, 'Powered by DataCore' customers can harness the bandwidth of the LSI44929O storage adapter and leverage current hardware configurations without sacrificing reliability and interconnect distance. The LSI44929O and its underlying Fusion-MPT(tm) architecture is ideal for use with data-intensive applications such as data warehousing, digital media and data mining.
"Integrating our performance-rich family of Fibre Channel storage adapters into SANsymphony environments gives customers powerful new options to meet varied quality-of-service requirements," said Bob Anderson, director for the LSI Logic HBA Group. "This combined solution enables customers to satisfy high transaction rates and large bandwidth applications from centrally managed network storage pools, using both new and legacy storage devices."
LSI Logic supplies a full spectrum of ICs, storage and RAID adapters and bus expanders worldwide through distribution channel partners such as Arrow Electronics, Avnet, Bell Microproducts, Insight Electronics and Tech Data.
SANsymphony software features breakthroughs in storage network manageability through automation, robust business recovery options, performance acceleration, simple administrative interfaces and the industry's broadest range of wire-agnostic connectivity.
About DataCore Software DataCore Software Corporation's award-winning software automates and consolidates storage management for enterprise customers worldwide, significantly reducing their costs and increasing the return on investment from information technology assets. The company's SANsymphony(tm) software sets the standard for open storage networking platforms, supporting all major brands of disk arrays and operating systems. It is available and supported through major OEMs, system integrators and resellers. DataCore is privately held with corporate headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. About the Fusion-MPT(tm) (Message Passing Technology) Architecture Fusion-MPT architecture, using industry standard ARM processor technology, uniquely employs the same device driver that supports Ultra320 SCSI, Serial ATA and Fibre Channel, eliminating the need to develop, install and qualify separate device drivers for each physical interface. The architecture enables OEMs to invest in a single I/O architecture that allows them to choose the best physical interface for their application while retaining the flexibility to migrate to new technologies as the market warrants. LSI Logic considers its Fusion-MPT architecture to be the fastest, most efficient and versatile architecture implemented in high performance I/O controllers today. The architecture will be applied to emerging interface technologies such as Serial Attached SCSI, as products evolve. http://www.lsilogic.com/techlib/marketing_docs/storage_stand_prod/integrated_circuits/fusion.pdf
