World's First All-Digital, Paperless and Film-less Hospital Documents an Impressive Three-Fold Storage Performance Advantage with SANsymphony Software
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 7, 2002) - DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced that Community Health Network of Indiana selected SANsymphony(tm) software from DataCore to accelerate and manage its storage network. Solution Technology Inc. (STI), an IBM TotalStorage Solution Partner, is implementing a comprehensive storage solution that combines SANsymphony open storage networking software with IBM storage.
Community Health Network is achieving significant performance and productivity gains using DataCore's software. "With SANsymphony operating in front of IBM FAStT storage arrays managing patient-critical production data, we documented an impressive three-fold performance advantage versus a direct Fibre Channel connection to storage," said Rick Copple, chief technology officer, Community Health Network. "Database processes that took 30 minutes now take just ten, backups received a similar boost and one application that previously took 25 minutes to complete 2,200 transactions now takes only seven minutes. The improvement in performance is so dramatic that our doctors noticed it immediately. On top of it all, the software leverages the IT staff's existing skill sets and automates common tasks, eliminating the need for additional, dedicated staff to manage the storage network."
The software also makes it possible to remotely replicate storage between data centers, at a significant cost-savings over competing alternatives. The joint storage solution relies on SANsymphony software to provide remote mirroring, high storage utilization and consolidated management across Community's main data center and a completely separate and redundant data center at another hospital in its network, The Indiana Heart Hospital. SANsymphony software is an IBM TotalStorage Proven solution, sold worldwide both directly by IBM and through a global network of IBM Business Partners, including TotalStorage Solution Centers (TSSCs) such as STI.
"Community Health Network constantly strives to deliver the best health care, superior physician resources and most reliable medical information possible," said Mr. Copple. "As a result, it is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the nation. With the world's first all-digital, paperless and film-less heart hospital, due to open in 2003, we will be generating incredible amounts of data. In addition, this data is absolutely critical to our patients' well-being, so it must be not only highly available, but safeguarded against catastrophe. With SANsymphony, we are able to eliminate downtime previously incurred by routine tasks, such as storage volume expansion, sparing our doctors and their patients as much as two hours of disruption in each instance."
The Community Health Network was founded in 1956 and comprises four hospitals, six immediate care centers, three nursing homes and more than 60 other health care facilities located throughout central Indiana. The Community Health Network of Indiana was recently named as one of the most innovative hospital systems in the U.S. by the American Hospital Association (AHA) for its use of technology in providing patient care, distributing health information and improving health care processes.
"Community Health Network has stringent operational and technological requirements that STI is able to fulfill with our expertise in implementing solutions using the IBM and DataCore products," said Kevin Regnier, senior sales representative, Solution Technology, Inc. "The combination of enterprise-class hardware and software enables us to tailor a complete storage networking solution for customers that not only deliver the functionality customers want, but also the cost-effectiveness they require."
Solution Technology, Inc. specializes in providing a complete information technology infrastructure for today's complex e-business applications and tomorrow's emerging technologies.
