From Typewriters to Wireless Networking – ConnectWise Celebrates 20 Years in the Technology Age.
TAMPA, FLORIDA – Nov. 13, 2002 – In 1982 ConnectWise, Inc.- Tampa Bay’s first computer and network services company- opened. At the time,Ronald Reagan was president, and most professionals were still pecking on electric typewriters.
A lot has changed in 20 years. Today, typewriters are as obsolete as buggy whips -- replaced by LANs, WANs and even wireless networking solutions, while Reagan's vice president's son is in office!
Throughout these remarkable decades ConnectWise flourished and today is proud to celebrate 2002 with 20 years of service in Tampa Bay. ConnectWise has helped more than 1,000 local businesses keep pace with rapidly changing technologies and in return, its roster of long-term clients have become a retrospective in how technology has changed American small business.
“We partner with our customers to help them become more productive through technology, said Arnie Bellini, president and co-owner. “This model has helped our clients, and us weather many business cycles -- from 1987's Black Monday, 1999's Y2K to 2000's dot com debacle. We’ve been in business since disco was around, and we’ll continue to stay focused on Tampa Bay’s small and medium sized businesses for years to come.” “We are a virtual I.T. department,” said Amy Porter, director of business development for ConnectWise. “Yet, instead of being down the hall, we are down the street. Many of our customers realize that outsourcing their I.T. department to ConnectWise saves them thousands of dollars a year.
ConnectWise, formerly known as Micro Information Systems (MIS), opened in 1982 when brothers Arnie and David Bellini, both CPAs by training, had an “ah-ha” moment. They realized that simply selling and installing accounting software packages was not enough, as the personal computer, network support and related services were in their infancy.
“We realized that we were spending more time troubleshooting our client’s networks than answering accounting or software-related questions,” said, David Bellini, CEO and co-owner. “Opportunity was knocking and we answered. We found the key to longevity is to pay attention to the market, listen to your customers, and keep your employees. It is essential as well that you grow at a manageable pace so you can keep up with ever-evolving technology. In our industry, it’s either adapt or go out of business.”
Back in the early 1980s when networks barely worked, ConnectWise became Tampa’s first Novell dealer. Then the personal computer boom occurred. ConnectWise again kept pace and embraced the Microsoft platform. Today, ConnectWise is one of only eight companies in the country to sit on Microsoft’s channel advisory for small to mid-size businesses (SMB). Its owners also serve on the SMB advisory council for Tech Data Corp.
ConnectWise services include system integration for LAN, WAN, VPN, wireless and Internet networks, IP-based telephone systems, network security, remote monitoring, as well as custom web application development, website design, hosting and Internet access.
Founded in 1982, ConnectWise Inc. is a privately-owned company that provides a full suite of information technology products and services for small and mid-sized companies. Headquartered in Tampa, Fla. at 2803 W. Busch Blvd., owners Arnie and David Bellini can be reached at 813-935-7100. For more information visit www.connectwise.com.
