IST-developed Timesheet Software Garners State Productivity Award

Two Institute for Simulation & Training employees gained Florida-wide recognition for developing a money-saving, web-based employee timesheet system that tracks hours allocated to various accounts.

Florida Tax Watch (www.floridataxwatch.org) a statewide research organization that keeps an eye on the state's political and economic future, sponsors the annual Davis Productivity Awards to honor state government for innovation, creativity and smart work that increase performance and productivity.

IST employees Tammie McClellan and Robert Reed developed the software to streamline monitoring and reporting of workhours charged against contracts and grants assigned to the University of Central Florida research institute.

McClellan's and Reed's system replaces error-prone manual data entry, enabling managers to more accurately account for state and contract funding for 130 employees. According to McClellan, the system is scalable to any number of employees or accounts.

The timesheet software, with built-in controls and allocation limits, saves IST $70,000 annually by limiting amounts that can be charged to contracts.

McClellan and Reed direct the institute's Department of Information Systems Technology, which develops web-based information management tools. Demonstrations of the timesheet program and other applications can be found on the department's website at www.itcenter.org.
