Duke Professor To Speak On Challenges Of Managing Staph aureus Infections
Boca Raton, FL – February 14, 2003 – The Enterprise Development Corporation (EDC), a public/private partnership specializing in providing strategic business development services to emerging science and technology based companies, and Florida Atlantic University (FAU), today announced that Nabi Biopharmaceuticals will sponsor the Biotech 2003 lunch program and has chosen Dr. Vance Fowler, Assistant Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine, Duke University Medical Center to deliver the mid-day address.
Dr. Fowler, the recipient of the 2001 Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Young Investigators Award for his innovative work on Staph aureus infections will share his experiences in attacking this serious public health issue. Within our nations 5400 acute care hospitals, S. aureus is one of the three leading causes of hospital-based bloodstream infections, with a crude mortality rate of 25%.
BioTech 2003 is an all-day event that will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2003 at FAU’s Boca Raton campus. The theme of this year’s conference is “The Future of Bioscience in South Florida” and will feature poster presentations in conjunction with corporate and university seminars and sponsor exhibits.
