TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In an effort to bridge the “digital divide” between those who have access to technology and those who do not, Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (ACS) has donated one small business membership for a minority-owned business and five student memberships for minority students to become part of the Tallahassee Technology (TalTech) Alliance. According to Steve Smith, senior vice president of US Southeast for ACS, many minorities are getting left behind due to inaccessibility to technology. “We wanted to open the door for minority-owned small businesses and minority students with an interest in technology to enhance their professional development opportunities,” said Smith. One small business owner and five students -- one from each of Lively Technical Center, Keiser College, Tallahassee Community College, Florida State University and Florida A&M University -- will receive a free annual membership in TalTech funded by ACS. Interested students and small business owners may download an application from TalTech’s web site at www.taltech.org. The application deadline is Nov. 21. Benefits of membership include networking opportunities with technology and business professionals in the corporate, government and educational sectors, monthly meetings and receptions, employment referrals and opportunities to garner larger projects by partnering with other TalTech members. The TalTech Alliance is dedicated to playing an active educational and informational role in nurturing tech-business, cultivating a superior tech workforce, developing technology- driven opportunities, and advancing Florida’s capital region as a center for technological achievement in the southeast. ACS, a Fortune 500 company with morethan 50,000 people supporting client operations in nearly 100 countries, provides business process and information technology outsourcing solutions to world-class commercial and government clients. The company’s Class A common stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “ACS.” ACS makes technology work. Visit ACS on the Internet at www.acs-inc.com.
