TAMPA, Fla. – (Sept. 18, 2006) – When Big Sur Technologies, Inc., implemented HP StorageWorks All-in-One (AiO) Storage Systems at St. John’s Episcopal Day School, the Tampa-based information technology services and consulting company was not only providing its client with an affordable Fortune 100-caliber networked storage solution, it was also helping to bridge a significant gap in the availability of networked storage products to small and medium businesses.
“Until now, it has not been cost-effective for smaller companies to implement networked storage solutions. In fact, nationwide, fewer than 40 percent of small and medium businesses have deployed networked storage,” said Big Sur CEO Sam Sandusky. “With prices ranging from $25,000-$300,000, networked storage solutions are beyond the financial reach of most SMBs. As a result, few have been able to take advantage of the significant data storage and protection benefits a networked solution provides.”
As such, when HP approached Big Sur about participating in the research and testing of its AiO Storage Systems, the Company jumped at the chance to be able to offer its SMB clients a truly affordable networked storage solution that delivers full functionality without the complexity of products designed for larger organizations.
HP AiO Storage Systems deliver simple, application-centric storage management, reliable data protection and affordable data storage. As a result, smaller companies with limited or no storage expertise can now store, share, manage, back up and protect their valuable application and file data in a flexible network storage environment.
“With the HP StorageWorks All-in-One, you can get a terabyte of raw storage for under $5,000,” said Don Zurbrick, Sales Manager, Big Sur. “But the real benefit is the connection wizard. With just a few mouse clicks, you can set up and begin using shared storage for Microsoft Exchange. Plus, the wizard has maintenance and backup methods built in, so there’s really very little that needs to be done to keep the system running smoothly.”
The benefits of a networked storage system were clear to St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School in Tampa, where Big Sur deployed the HP AiO as part of the test project.
Big Sur has focused on providing cost-effective solutions that keep the school on the cutting edge in spite of limited financial resources. An affordable networked storage solution was a gap in the school’s technology infrastructure that the Company was finally able to fill.
“We rely on Big Sur to make sure we have what we need from a technology, protection and storage standpoint so we can stay ahead of the curve and take our school on the best possible technological journey with a limited budget,” said Jim Armstrong, Director of Operations, St. John’s. “Providing us with a networked storage solution that fits both our needs and our budget is a prime example of why we trust Big Sur to not only keep us up and running, but also to ensure we have what we need to grow in the future.”
Added Sandusky: “As a managed services provider, Big Sur’s SMB clients look to us to make the kinds of technology decisions that address their needs and maximize their limited budgets. The introduction of the HP AiO Storage Systems means we can now offer a robust networked storage solution that is responsive and easy to manage. It’s a true Fortune 100 solution for the SMB market.”
