DataGlyphics-developed FIDS Takes off at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport
– DataGlyphics created a new flight information display system that presents flight and baggage claim information on monitors throughout the airport –
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – DataGlyphics Inc. today announced the development and launch of the new flight information display system (FIDS) at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. Featuring an enhanced interface design, the new system populates monitors throughout the airport with flight arrival and departure information.
The DataGlyphics-developed FIDS is also integrated with the airport’s existing baggage information display system (BIDS) for baggage handling. The BIDS is the control unit for the airport’s conveyor belts and baggage claim display signs that indicate which flight corresponds with which belt. The FIDS supplies flight arrival information and belt assignments to the BIDS, which in turn displays the correct baggage claim belt information.
“We needed to update our current FIDS to make it more user-friendly for our personnel and our travelers,” said John McCoy, systems administrator with the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. “DataGlyphics successfully met our objectives by designing a complete system – one that tracks and displays flight and baggage information while simplifying system maintenance with a backend administrative portal that is very user-friendly and intuitive.”
To streamline system management and maintenance, the new FIDS allows authorized users to login and add, delete or modify aircraft, airlines, cities, arrivals, departures and users. Built-in security measures ensure that airline personnel can administer only their airline’s information. The system also generates automatic flight logs for all incoming and outgoing flights.
William H. Stover, Jr., CEO of DataGlyphics, said, “It is a dynamic system that is designed to make flight information management much easier. It also adds a level of sophistication by integrating with the BIDS and tracking and displaying baggage information as it moves throughout the facility.”
